Lights, Camera, ACNE!!

Event: Acne Runway Show In London
Location: Former Residence of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon at Kensington Palace.
Date: September 19th
Reaction: Can I Get A Ticket? Pretty Please?? With Cherries On Top

Following on from the opening of their first london Store on Dover Street, Jonny Johansson has decided to ensure that Acne's presence in England is well known by having the brands first real runway show. His only hints about what to expect?  "a lot of sheer, a large amount of leather,”

If he carries it off with the same panache as he did the store opening, it will definitely be a Fashion week highlight!

My Favourite items from the collection online and in stores now;

Hybria Suede Cut In Wedge Ankle Boot
Ganga

P.S if you need to whet your appetite before the show, head over to the store... you know what?? head down there anyway ! you don't need a reason.

HOGAN Ad campaign Fall/Winter 2011!

TOD's sister brand, Hogan, has enlisted the help of uber fashionista Olivia Palermo this season. I think it's a welcome change! Interstingly, Johannes Heubl (Olivia's beau) seen left of Olivia in the final picture  fits in seamlessly to the spirited nature of this campaign. My favourite piece is that khaki parker, it's so fitted yet cosy - look at the detailing of the gold buttons!!!!! A perfect alternative to the winter coat...
Did any of you peep the model Elisa Sednaoui in the video.. she was featured in this month's British Vogue?

Bright Lights, Blurs and Whirls!

I admit, I was scared to post this... purely because not everyone adores the Olsen twins. But you know what.. I DON'T CARE... do you know why? Because it's not about the 'Ashley Olsen' or the 'Olsen Empire' but a girl who's style is so niche and totally her own... that any imitators fail miserably in comparison. Both girls, are boundary breakers unable to ignore fashion- I personally love that, their 'against- the- grain attitude' has definitely got us watching.

This editorial comes courtesy of FASHION Canada's September 2010 Issue. And I am beyond captivated. The sepia lighting is what does it for me, taking the pieces to a different level of elegant. I'm getting such a vintage vibe. - you can almost sense the movement by the blur and off focus stills. Tell me I'm not alone when I say the lace body-con with the caramel leather peplum needs to jump into my wardrobe with immediate effect!

In all seriousness, Ashley Olsen is showing me maturity, grace and poise in all of 5 pictures! The layering of the gold cuffs on top of black gloves has all the ingredients of cliche styling but manages to look organic and almost grungy against that beautiful fur. The oversized gilet, paired with a zesty yellow matronly bag, the knitted bra in the black and white still...

its all... genius,... believable,... Olsen!

ALAIA, ALAIA, ALAIA

Imagine walking down the street, you see a girl walking towards you, she's wearing a white mens shirt, tight skinny jeans and a fedora, maybe a necklace and a ring, no earrings. That's it. That's me...

Or that was me until I stepped into Dover Street Market a couple of days ago after work to lift my spirits and in doing so fell in love. I was literally seduced by Azzedine Alaia's silhouettes. I've always been a fervent but distant admirer, however, there is something about these clothes up close that just stuns me. The silhouettes  on the dresses are outrageous, just imagining myself in one makes me feel sinful and that's just the dresses! Then when you think of the Shoes, Bags and Jackets - the cut of these are phenomenal. I couldn't even speak for about 10 minutes after I left the showroom as I was still salivating over the collection!!  I could go on and on and on and on... and on! I'm in Love!!!!

P.S The pictures do not do the clothes justice.

If that wasn't enough of a hint guess who I'll be watching at London Fashion Week???

The power of "not too much?

We've all had the dilemma, when we look in the mirror... the age old question pops up.... 'Is this too much?!!!'...

This season, I've decided to adopt the mantra of 'not too much'. We've seen it all before... too many sequins, too many trends (to comprehend into a useful outfit), too many labels... Is keeping it 'classic' too safe these days?

The key is to not confuse this with minimalism. It's all about dressing with that air of confidence, the cuff slightly rolled up, the flash of lace, a glint of a masculine watch. All executed with precision and a dash of excellence. The god is in the little things. That certain je ne sais quoi.  That attention to detail makes all the difference.

I'm rooting for my girls (and boys) who stare excess in the face, put their hands up and say, 'I'm waving the flag of individuality'

Who's with me?

"The Great Debaters" by Jon Malinowski

To be honest, menswear is really not my forte... but I really had to sit back and stare at this photoshoot in admiration. I was originally going to write a post about the "Water and Oil" editorial featured in Vogue Italia ( I still might!)... but this was too hot to keep to myself!

This shoot, styled by Cathy Eastman, succeeded in bringing out the simple beauty of menswear. The type of menswear seen in  the times before the 'low slung trousers, man bags and fussy embellishment'.

Most models were relatively unknown but I recognised a few models who are on the books of 'RED NYC'. What I loved about the shoot most was the styling, somewhat romantic but still sooo current. Set in Tribeca, the images took me to a time of nonchalance and summer nights, jazz bands and unpressured youth. Notice how relaxed slacks are paired with diamante bow ties and baker boys caps. Never underestimate the power of a top- buttoned shirt- women included!

Do you like it? What do you feel about the pictures in colour? Do they distract from the original concept?

Is The Cape The New Coat????

I'll start off by saying I'm not the biggest fan of coats... ok, that's an understatement... I hate them. They're heavy, bulky, take a million years to get off and the sleeves are always too thin to get my shirt sleeves through!!!!

In steps the Cape. To me it is everything the Coat wishes it was, but better. It can quite literally transform an outfit, not just act as a buffer between you and the cold that you can't wait to get off so that people can ooh and ah over whats underneath.

The right Cape can make that simple dress elegant when done up, or add that layer of nonchalance to your outfit when you throw it on haphazardly and just let it hang, making it seem like you just woke up looking that good!!

I will definitely be investing in a cape as opposed to a coat this season! My personal favourites are from Yves Saint Laurent A/W 2010 ( above)   and Celine Pre- Fall 2010 Collection ( First picture and below)

Consider the Cape!!!

Introducing...

Hi Guys, Eni did her introduction yesterday, so now it's my turn!

I'm going to answer the same questions as she did, so you can get to know me better as well,

Fashion is... Honest, I think this is because you can always tell when a person is comfortable in what they are wearing because they always seem really confident, unlike the person who clearly hates what they are wearing or how they look and stares at the ground all the time

Describe your style in 3 words...
Clean,
Simple with an edge ( I know thats a phrase not one word)!
Classic

Style Icons...
I'm not big on icons but there are certain people that I admire...

Giovanna Battaglia
Thandie Newton
Scott Schuman
Jackie Onassis

Drool Item of the Season...
Leather Cropped Leggings from The Row- I have a slight obsession... anything from The Row or Balmain A/W 2010 will do really!!!

Wardrobe Must Haves...

- White Shirt - I always buy men's shirts because I have big shoulders so this is important to me- I need a shirt that I can wear with leggings or jeans or skirt and still feel good in!

- Black Jeans or Trousers

- 5 inch heels- because you have to have a pair they dress anything up and the extra height is always good -I prefer Stilettos but as Eni said any type will do.

- A Yellow Gold Necklace-  because i always feel like it makes my outfit look classier

- A Bag!!- Big or Small, Slouchy, Structured or somewhere in between, it really doesn't matter as long as it works for you. I tend to have bags somewhere in between and I'm happy with that. I would suggest that out of everything the bag needs to be the practical purchase as they probably get the most use.!

I hope you enjoyed that... and while you're here take a look around the site

P.S What is your drool item of the season and your wardrobe must haves????

Tuesday 10 August 2010

Ok my glitterbugs, this is a first post to fill you in on a little about ourselves.... We decided that it was best to do a little question and answer so u could get a feel of our different personalities!!!!! I'll start!!!!! <3

Fashion is...'What you make it!...  It can be captured in just a moment, as short as a breath. Whether its a blatant show of 'sartorial expertise' or just a subtle hint of a trend, I personally believe its an expression of creativity.

Describe your style in 3 words?:
Subtly risky!
Classic
Fussy

Style Icons
My mother and supermodel Iman. Modern day icons include Shala Monroque, Miroslava Duma, Thandie Newton, Stephano Pilati, Kanye West

Drool item of the season?
A double breasted coat with tortoiseshell buttons and a funnel neck ( ha!) This 'coat of my dreams/figment of pure imagination' would be the perfect as a 'fashion barrier' against the predictably cold London weather.

Must have wardrobe essentials?
-A practical bag... but because I say practical .. it doesn't mean I throw style out of Karl Lagerfeld's window!!!.... Nothing with too many bells and whistles.. structured or speedy... It's mine and I <3 it!!

-5 inch heels (or higher) in any form (wedge, stiletto, glamazonian heel!!)... I'm 5'2'' so I definitely need the height!

-Anything in beautiful print but nothing too ... much?! so I can stand out ( I hope) against the drab neutrals and greys of EVERYDAY LIFE.

- A timeless dress.... NOTE: the word timeless... I really don't think it needs to be black. In my eyes any colour that suits my natural skin colour and is cut in a sublime way..... (sigh!..need i go on!!!!)  ... a dress like this is DEFINATELY a must-have staple of mine..

So that's it!!!! its long I know but I hope worth it!
