Hiatus... / Victoria Beckham Collection

Hi guys,
This is a half and half blog.
Firstly I would like to apologize for my impromptu disappearance, my only defence is that I have been away and I was way too busy to blog . But i'm back, refreshed and ready to face the winter weather and blog at your service!

Now to VB,
I'll start with my favourite pieces from her S/S 2011 collection;

 (I know it's nearly the whole collection!)

Personally I've always been a fan of Mrs Beckham, so I have to say i'm not too surprised by the success of her Collection, but even I have to say that I wasn't completely sure what direction it was going to follow and how it was going to grow. However, having seen her S/S 2011 collection, I will concur with Anna Wintour "Do not underestimate her".

I am also very excited by these pieces from her denim collection;

To see the full collections and her very cool inspiration videos go to her website www.victoriabeckham.com.

Rive Gauche et Libre| Vogue Paris September 2010

Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot  and featuring Malgosia Bela, Daphne Groeneveld and Lea T, and then styled by Carine Roitfeld, this shoot just couldn't go wrong.

I love the avant-garde, androgynous style of the shoot and I think the close up on Lea T's face is beautiful.

1 + 1 = 2

Telegraph.co.uk fashion photographer, Catherine Servel, gives us her answer's through the lens of this week's feature.

Who said math's was hard! Now the only thing I'm stuck on is how to get these camel coats into my possession!

Lights, Camera, ACNE!!

Event: Acne Runway Show In London
Location: Former Residence of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon at Kensington Palace.
Date: September 19th
Reaction: Can I Get A Ticket? Pretty Please?? With Cherries On Top

Following on from the opening of their first london Store on Dover Street, Jonny Johansson has decided to ensure that Acne's presence in England is well known by having the brands first real runway show. His only hints about what to expect?  "a lot of sheer, a large amount of leather,”

If he carries it off with the same panache as he did the store opening, it will definitely be a Fashion week highlight!

My Favourite items from the collection online and in stores now;

Hybria Suede Cut In Wedge Ankle Boot
Ganga

P.S if you need to whet your appetite before the show, head over to the store... you know what?? head down there anyway ! you don't need a reason.

HOGAN Ad campaign Fall/Winter 2011!

TOD's sister brand, Hogan, has enlisted the help of uber fashionista Olivia Palermo this season. I think it's a welcome change! Interstingly, Johannes Heubl (Olivia's beau) seen left of Olivia in the final picture  fits in seamlessly to the spirited nature of this campaign. My favourite piece is that khaki parker, it's so fitted yet cosy - look at the detailing of the gold buttons!!!!! A perfect alternative to the winter coat...
Did any of you peep the model Elisa Sednaoui in the video.. she was featured in this month's British Vogue?

Bright Lights, Blurs and Whirls!

I admit, I was scared to post this... purely because not everyone adores the Olsen twins. But you know what.. I DON'T CARE... do you know why? Because it's not about the 'Ashley Olsen' or the 'Olsen Empire' but a girl who's style is so niche and totally her own... that any imitators fail miserably in comparison. Both girls,are boundary breakers unable to ignore fashion- I personally love that, their 'against- the- grain attitude' has definitely got us watching.

This editorial comes courtesy of FASHION Canada's September 2010 Issue. And I am beyond captivated. The sepia lighting is what does it for me, taking the pieces to a different level of elegant. I'm getting such a vintage vibe. - you can almost sense the movement by the blur and off focus stills. Tell me I'm not alone when I say the lace body-con with the caramel leather peplum needs to jump into my wardrobe with immediate effect!

In all seriousness, Ashley Olsen is showing me maturity, grace and poise in all of 5 pictures! The layering of the gold cuffs on top of black gloves has all the ingredients of cliche styling but manages to look organic and almost grungy against that beautiful fur. The oversized gilet, paired with a zesty yellow matronly bag, the knitted bra in the black and white still...

its all... genius,... believable,... Olsen!

ALAIA, ALAIA, ALAIA

Imagine walking down the street, you see a girl walking towards you, she's wearing a white mens shirt, tight skinny jeans and a fedora, maybe a necklace and a ring, no earrings. That's it. That's me...

Or that was me until I stepped into Dover Street Market a couple of days ago after work to lift my spirits and in doing so fell in love. I was literally seduced by Azzedine Alaia's silhouettes. I've always been a fervent but distant admirer, however, there is something about these clothes up close that just stuns me. The silhouettes  on the dresses are outrageous, just imagining myself in one makes me feel sinful and that's just the dresses! Then when you think of the Shoes, Bags and Jackets - the cut of these are phenomenal. I couldn't even speak for about 10 minutes after I left the showroom as I was still salivating over the collection!!  I could go on and on and on and on... and on! I'm in Love!!!!

P.S The pictures do not do the clothes justice.

If that wasn't enough of a hint guess who I'll be watching at London Fashion Week???

The power of "not too much?

We've all had the dilemma, when we look in the mirror... the age old question pops up.... 'Is this too much?!!!'...

This season, I've decided to adopt the mantra of 'not too much'. We've seen it all before... too many sequins, too many trends (to comprehend into a useful outfit), too many labels... Is keeping it 'classic' too safe these days?

The key is to not confuse this with minimalism. It's all about dressing with that air of confidence, the cuff slightly rolled up, the flash of lace, a glint of a masculine watch. All executed with precision and a dash of excellence. The god is in the little things. That certain je ne sais quoi.  That attention to detail makes all the difference.

I'm rooting for my girls (and boys) who stare excess in the face, put their hands up and say, 'I'm waving the flag of individuality'

Who's with me?

"The Great Debaters" by Jon Malinowski

To be honest, menswear is really not my forte... but I really had to sit back and stare at this photoshoot in admiration. I was originally going to write a post about the "Water and Oil" editorial featured in Vogue Italia ( I still might!)... but this was too hot to keep to myself!

This shoot, styled by Cathy Eastman, succeeded in bringing out the simple beauty of menswear. The type of menswear seen in  the times before the 'low slung trousers, man bags and fussy embellishment'.

Most models were relatively unknown but I recognised a few models who are on the books of 'RED NYC'. What I loved about the shoot most was the styling, somewhat romantic but still sooo current. Set in Tribeca, the images took me to a time of nonchalance and summer nights, jazz bands and unpressured youth. Notice how relaxed slacks are paired with diamante bow ties and baker boys caps. Never underestimate the power of a top- buttoned shirt- women included!

Do you like it? What do you feel about the pictures in colour? Do they distract from the original concept?
